I think it\'s a little bit of everything. I\'ve had experiences with \"Western\" guys who were into me because I was Asian. Needless to say, that didn\'t go over well with me. The \"Yellow fever\" syndrome still exists with some non Asian guys out there. Some Asian women only want to date Western men - some reasons I\'ve been told include looks (the classic blond hair and blue eyes thing - I\'d call this curiosity), a chance to go to the USA (no joke), culture (some Asian women believe Western men treat the ladies better)....etc. Personally, I\'ve dated both Asian and non-Asian guys and my relationships with \"Western\" guys lasted much longer. I think it had a lot to do with the culture clash I\'ve experienced with Korean-American guys. IMHO, Asian guys seem to be more conservative and conscious about what their parents think about their girlfriends. I\'ve found my \"American\" boyfriends to be more independent from their parents\' influences. Just my 2 cents worth.
I only knew one Asian lady well. I knew her for 4 years. She told me that she preferred Western guys because they were more \"open minded\" than the Korean guys she knew. She also preferred them physically. She felt the Western guys were more \"manly\" Like a lot of Western guys I thought Asian women were just the pinnacle of femininity .....and I thought being with an Asian woman would make me feel more masculine because of that. The reality was that it was just a stereotype. Asian woman can be just as aggressive as their Western sisters Asian women tend to lean towards being thinner....and they age better than Western....which is also a possible selling point for Western guys. My personal feeling is that the most beautiful people are mixed race....asian/western (Daniel Henney)...Black /White (Haley Berry) edited by james, at: 2007/05/18 06:18

well said james. Twas quite balanced I feel.
Can we just clarify (be honest) and admit that when people say things like \"Western guys\" or \"native English speakers,\" we\'re referring to white people (please don\'t try to clarify your statement by saying that you were including black and other people of color because we know that simply ain\'t true)? I get so annoyed at this because nobody has the balls to actual say \"white\" even though EVERYONE knows that\'s what is meant. I\'m an ethnically Asian woman who\'s culture is American, so technically, I\'m a \"Westerner\" (god forbid anyone mistake me for a native Korean *shudder*) and a \"native speaker,\" but I\'ll corrected daily by Koreans and even other Westerners about this (saying crap like, \"oh, you know what we mean\"). To answer your question, I think it\'s largely based on status. Korean (and other Asian nationalities) women seem to think that landing a white guy is a step higher on the social ladder (not unlike some black men\'s preference for white women). I think this is also true in the U.S. where a lot of Asian American women also prefer white men over other races. In a few cases, you can say that it\'s the mere attraction to difference, blah, blah, blah, but I\'m not that idealistic about the majority of situations. Honestly, being a Western Asian woman in Korea sometime sucks because we\'re Korean enough for Western (and I mean all races) guys, and we\'re not foreign enough for Korean men. My overall preference is darker skin and eyes, so I tend to go for men of color (black, Latino, and Asian).

Hmm...I know what I said...and I know what I meant....and I\'ve got to tell you....you are wrong. In my mind , when I said western,..I was actually picturing one of the Black guys (from the U.S. ) that my Asian friend had a thing with. I was also thinking of Lucy Liu, who grew up not that far from me in Queens,NY....and is definately Asian...but also definately from the West. It is fucked up....but in my mind...Asian is classified as having Asian eyes, off white skin.....Western...I was thinking of black and white people I grew up with back home. I don\'t know how the fuck to classify the Indian people who lived next store to me...haha...but Indian women are gorgeous! Anyway...has nothing to do with balls....don\'t confuse it...just ask. ....and BTW..I grew up in a small town where I was the minority...(white)...the local High School was 98% non-white , and I was the only white kid in my Boy Scout troup....haha My first merit badge was for \"jackin\" a car....hahahah
well bomiya to be honest I had no thoughts of any form of inclusion or exclusion what so ever so take it how you will.
Western men in Korea have their own apartments. They don\'t have to take women to sleazy love motels. My male Korean friends who have their own places (and are single) get more women than any waygook I know. Logistics...it\'s always logistics!
ah yes the free love hotel factor !!!
To me Asian women look and act like ladies. To look clean and smell clean and have healthy non overwight bodies is atractive to me. Korean women in general, are concerned with their families and elders. To be honest I\'m sure I have some of that yellow fevor but that is just one part as to why I married a beautiful Korean woman. I know that she also had a fantasy about being in America and being with an American. All of those fantasies have proved to be untue. But the more we have found our preconceptions to be untrue the more we have grown to love eachother for more mature reasons.
 in my experiance... i think korean girls are nicer than australian, kinder people..... this is the same with guys also though.
Could the answer simply be personal preference on both sides?
For my case, I would say personal preference. I am physically attracted to Caucasian male in general. Maybe my experience in the past or my work environment had something to do with that. But it\'s like I like beagles and cocker spaniel dogs more than other dogs because I personally happened to babysit those two types of dogs and fell in love with them. But I know there are many asian women who choose the western male for their status upgrade-I heard from my friend yesterday and that was very shocking. One Korean woman married to American man and after the man invited her family to USA for their wedding...she divorced him right away. Quite shocking and sad to hear those stories...but I guess there are people like that...
i still say its genes
Bomiya, you sound a little bitter. I\'m mixed race myself (black/white) and I\'ve found Korean girls are mostly just as interested in me than my white friends I may be with. I try to only worry about in life things I can control... otherwise, who cares? To answer the question, I think its a mixture of the points everyone has brought up. I do believe it is mostly a status thing, as having a white guy puts you in a higher status bracket (true for all women, not just Korean ones). I also believe some girls just want a ticket to the USA and US citizenship, and still others are attracted to what is different. Also, someone brought up black men and white women. What\'s up with this? I have never understood it. I often see black men in the US with the fattest, ugliest white girls. It often leaves me scratching my head.
if ur hot ur hot if ur not ur not what does color really have to do with anything this is 2007!!don\'t step back in history ...and from past experiences ..nd i believe i have had a few. it is all ab. how u feel when u r with someone looks can b important for ab. the first 5 minutes ok maybe a little longer but it is how u feel inside ..nd this whole thing ab.western guys with asian women it is so ice-age aren\'t we kind of past this ...nd i have seen a couple of \"western\"women with asian guys..nd they seem to b very happy..nd everyone has personal preference ..well maybe some people have a thing called yellow fever nd maybe some people have a thing for western people becuz they have alterior motives but i think to judge nd put a label on every couple for being attracted to each other is just plain crap.my husband is from the ukraine nd when i told people ab.him they all were so ignorant speakin about ....just really stupid shit but now everyone sees how happy i am so their rude remarks have turned to envy....let\'s just not judge people nd group them into one group..i have many asian friends who preferred to b with only african-americans ..i didn\'t get that either but they did..so what...right?
I would like to add my consensus to this debate. True, some women want to date (white) western men due to the blond hair and blue eyes thing. True, some want to elevate their social status. True, some believe (white) western men treat the ladies better. True, when many say western they are refering to white people just like when you refer to Asian you exclude the southern and central Asians who I\'ll refer to as black Asians. True, some don\'t have the balls to actual say \"white\". True, some want citizenship. I don\'t think anyone should criticise another\'s opinion. A lot of you people missed the role media plays in shaping peoples perceptions. Let\'s talk about Hollywood movies as they are the most widely distributed. They usually have a white hero. A lot of the Asian women you talk about, heir only experience of western culture come from these medias. So, of course, they will see the white man as a demigod. David Beckham is a perfect example. The medias give more favourble exposure to whites so they are looked upon in a favourable light by my Asian people. The standard of universal beauty is set by the (white) western medias so you know why the Asian women favour white men. You could say the Asian women have already built up an image or expectation of the western man before even meeting one. Sometimes they are proved correct (the lucky ones who meet respectable western men). Other times they have been left disappointed (the unlucky ones). Asian women have stereotyped the white man just like the white man has stereotyped them.

in my case i preper dark skin guys kkk white people who have blonde and blue eyes..look like.. ET to me ^^; i have met many though and i dont agree with you sir-charles on \"True, some want to elevate their social status\" as still there are a lot of prejudice for girls who hang out with foreign guys meeting foreign friends, i still feel gazings in not good ways from strangers is that social elevation??

yes, it\'s true, iI agree with rani,, each one has his own appeal or charisma,, I like darker or brown skin like indias, I like their eyes,, I like Antonio Banderas,, sean connery,, richard geere,,many of us are looking for a better life,, but not to elevate the social status or financially become stable,, just what james33 wrote, he is 99% absolutly right. it is out of topic though,, no comment for the mean time, I guess, white people are open minded, and ah,, mula mula mula,,, hihi rani wrote:
in my case i preper dark skin guys kkk white people who have blonde and blue eyes..look like.. that\'s true, korean ladies/women in south korea are loving, they works so hard for the family, is korean men really blind not to seethe good characters of korean ladies,?, just wondering about one of the highest rates in divorced,, or maybe because, korean women believes that they are not born to become martyr for their husband,,just what I wrote, white poeple are open minded than most of the Korean guys,,AND THE RE REASON IS NOT REALLY TO ELEVATE THE SOCIAL STATUS OR FOR THE BETTER LIFE, the korean ladies can have it,, they are bright and beautiful,,
For Rani & Actually, I just wanted to clarify a few points coz I came acroos this debate. I\'m not criticising anyone\'s preference. Mmm... I said \"True, SOME want to elevate their social status\". Love it or hate it, SOME do. You see it in England, too. There\'s many races of people in London but why are so many yellow women found on the arms of a white man the majority of the time?

Actually, if a girl wants to elevate her status or maintain it, she can doll herself up and find herself a junior exec or engineer from Samsung or LG or a doctor or a lwayer. The last time I checked, marrying/dating an ESL teacher wasn\'t at the top of the list of \"status-elevating\" moves. Actually, even for the white guys, there are clashes with conservative traditional beliefs held by parents or other family. Remember, you fit the bill for teaching their children, but you have to be or do more to prove you\'re worthy of marrying one of them. Maybe if you\'re in some rural area where anything is a step up this could work out, but I still doubt it. Korean women can take care of themselves, and it seems that in the relationships I\'ve seen they are also taking on the duty of caring for their husband/boyfriend. Another point, the great misconception a lot of Western guys seem to have about Asian women is that they are subservient and need to somehow be rescued from their oppressive, Confuscian male-driven society. Maybe this notion makes them feel more masculine. I don\'t know. And why would a Korean woman seek out US citizenship????? I\'m sure it happens a bit here and there, but I don\'t think it\'s as prevalent as a few people have made it out to be. Korea\'s economy is proving itself to be a growing powerhouse in the tech industries, and the country itself is at a state of development in which the average quality of life rivals that of the U.S. I\'m American, and I have to say that we really need to get over ourselves here. Ok, a bit of a rant there, but you get the point. I don\'t think dating a while guy is going to elevate a Korean girl\'s status. In some points of view, it may actually bring her status down.
Ah yeah, and aside from ESL teachers, US G.I.\'s are at the top of the list of status breakers. One thing that several Korean friends of mine told me was that if they ever brought a US soldier home to introduce to the parents as a boyfriend or fiance, they\'d be dead.
SonicSustain your post really tocuhes on fluff and wuff. Lets dissect it. You make an initial point about Doctors and Lawyers. I will counteract by mentioning the fact that most of the time, doctors and lawyers mix, hang out with and associate with their own type. Secondly, Doctors and Lawyers prefer actual more then perceptive. They seek out fact more then fiction and frivolity. They can see right through someone looking to lift their social status. Next, you can have all the cultural barriers in the world and you can still win. Its all about the feelings you create. The style. The attraction. The turning on of ones buttons. Sure mummy and daddy might try and pressure the person ..... and you know what thats gonna so dont you !? its gonna create animosity. And in this modern era, people seek to make their own choices rather then be bullied about by outside influence. You then touch upon economic notions. Dude, you can have all the cash in the world and all the technology to wipe your arse with, but when it comes to relationships ...that doesnt mean squat. If you can not generate feelings of love, spontaneity and attraction, then none of your cash and advances matters. Asian cultures are notorious for putting image first but you can not play those with people. As soon as you take out the human factor you might as well stop the game. You are factually incorrect about the quality of life ratio also. The great land of Australia is ranked at 2. The US is ranked at 5. And south Korea is ranked at 50. These results have been taken from the quality of life index 2007. ( It can be viewed here http://www.il-ireland.com/il/qofl07/ ) Your assertions on GIs and teachers is also incorrect I do believe. GIs and teachers are providing a valuable ( not always necessary ) service to the Korean People. GIs are being asked to put their arse on the line should \" Oh great leader \" decide to get nasty. Sure many dont appreciate it. Well lets see then pick up a rifle and ten hat and get their arse shot off. Once again you have put job classification before the people involved. You make some fluff and huff general assertions here. There are many good english teachers teacher that are also decent humans too. You need to consider this more in your argument.

I was just countering the previous post in which someone said that dating a foreigner raises a Korean girl\'s status. \"And in this modern era, people seek to make their own choices rather then be bullied about by outside influence.\" It has nothing to do with being bullied. If a Korean woman is given the choice of following her family\'s wishes versus dating/marrying a foreigner, 9 times out of 10 they\'re going to follow their family\'s wishes. Why? Because the family culture is centered around maintaining those connections with which you were born. I concede on the quality of life statement, but I don\'t believe there is a surge of people here seeking out citizenship or residence in another country through relationships as was suggested in previous posts. \"GIs are being asked to put their arse on the line should \" Oh great leader \" decide to get nasty. Sure many dont appreciate it. Well lets see then pick up a rifle and ten hat and get their arse shot off.\" Actually, they do pick up rifles. Every able-bodied male is required to do 2 years of army service with annual duties after discharge. They maintain their training in a fashion similar to reservists, and in the event of war, all of them are called up to enter the military. Even though the US presence is important here, it\'s not the only thing keeping \"Oh Great Leader\" behind the parallel. I know there are good people working in the ESL and military fields, but there are reasons there are negative images surrounding them. There are many unqualified English teachers, with and without degrees, that give the field a bad name. I\'m sure almost any decent ESL teacher here can give you recollections of coworkers from hell. That\'s about it. I just wanted to make a point about the \"status upgrade\" comment.
